1.2 Update for Creative Studio

Well, I’m writing from the Houston Quilt Show.  It has been a great show.  I was worried that with the economy in the tank that many people would opt to stay home this year.  Market seemed to confirm that.  But Festival has really been busy and exciting.

The coolest geek thing for us Statler Stitchers is in the new 1.2 update for Creative Studio. For us Beta testers – none of this new stuff is…well…new.  But I’ll list the key features I’ve been playing with during the show.

1. Circlular Array.
Yes!  We can now array a pattern in a quilt group just by right-clicking, entering the number of repeats and the angle.  Then you click where you want the center of the array. Cool!

2. Rubber Stamp. Well.  It is nice to have the ability to copy any pattern, but honesty the name implies a feature that it doesn’t actually do.  I want to choose rubber stamp, and then anywhere I click have it paste a copy.  This feature (as of 1.1.16) only creates a copy exactly on top of the existing pattern.  You have to then move the copy to another location.  It is more useful for large groups of patterns that took a bit of time to layout.

3. More control to the head. This is actually really nice.  There have been many commands that require the keyboard and mouse to respond to.  This recent update makes many of those messages accessible from the keypad.

4. Basting moved out of regulated menu choices. This is a minor and seemingly pointless change.  The baste style regulation was the fourth choice under regulated mode.  Now it resides out on the toolbar as a separate button.  One questions: Is ‘Baste’ a critical enough mode to warrant it’s own toolbar button? The toolbar is very valuable real-estate.  It’s like reserving beach front property for a government building  Sure it’s useful, but not something that needs to be out in prime location.

There are other features and bug fixes, which I will list at a later time, but these are the most notable changes.  According to Statler, this update will be made available in November (definiately before the 1st of December).
