TechCall: Gammill Stitch RegulatorAs apart of my postings here, I thought a glimpse into the many, many technical support issues I handle would be helpful to everyone. Names of course will be changes or ommited to protect the innocent. *wink* So I will post these glimpses with the term "TechCall" in the title. Here we go!
If a machine will operate in Constant Speed mode, but not in Regulated (or Automatic) mode, then it is likely an issue with the encoding system. In that case, be sure the encoders cables are plugged in on the back, that they are also plugged into the encoders themselves and that both encoders roll when the machine moves. Also, go into regulated mode and move the machine left-to-right and front-to back. Will the machine respond in one direction, but not the other? If so then you have just narrowed it down to an issue with a specific encoder and not the system as a whole. Inspect that encoder - that it is working properly. Remember to use the diagnostics mode to see if the encoders are responding? [Do this by turning off the machine. Holding down the left handle button that is black, while turning the machine on. After a few moments let go.] You will see 'encoder data' changing from lower case to upper case if the encoders are receiving data. Finally, if the hardware seems to be plugged in and working properly, we need to check the programming of the regulator. It is possible, for example, that the 'time out' for the regulator has been changed to a very low number. To check this, go in to the programming mode. Here is a link to the service manual in .pdf format for the plus machine. Go to page 12-5 and begin reading from "Troubleshooting Encoder Problems". The settings can be compared to the manual through to page 12-9. I hope this information can help others also. Of course, if the system is programmed correctly - you may have faulty part. That is best checked using a good part to test with. You may need to contact your dealerhship for additonal assistance. Good Luck!! Trackback URL for this blog entry

Oh dear. Well you can try right clicking on the link and selecting the download option. I have tested the link in Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari and Chrome - all with success. rkjones4@sbcglobal.net

Wow, I was having a heart attack tonight when after cleaning my machine the stitch regulator wouldn't work. My husband and I had tried everything we could think of even tried calling the area Gammill support and the stitch regulator was still not functioning properly. I decided to do some web browsing for help and found you! Thank Goodness! The problem was simply the regulated move count was somehow reset to 14 and when I put it back to 01 it worked just fine! Thank you! Thank you!

The first issue I will post was a question about the a Gammill Classic running in Stitch Regulator mode. The customer stated that the machine would not move when activated. They had replaced all the switches, but the problem persisted. The machine did - however - run in manual or constant speed mode.

Thanks, Todd, for a great explanation! Often we can read the manual an "not get it" until it's explained in a different way. I've referred to the manual on occasion and didn't always understand exactly what or where the references were.
