Hari Walner

| In 1987 Quilters Newsletter Magazine hired Hari as an illustrator/designer. This job was her introduction to the quilting world. She quickly became interested in machine quilting because the definition of the stitches was more like the pen and ink drawings/illustrations that she has always enjoyed doing. She also found that machine quilting traditional patterns could be a painful stop and go process, so she started developing quilting designs that could be stitched in a continuous line to make them easier to machine quilt. Kim Brunner

| Growing up, I spent many school vacations at my grandparent's farm, where my grandmother, who had the patience of a saint with a little girl and her clumsy fingers, taught me to do all kinds of handwork (probably in an effort to keep me from going out and terrorizing the chickens). Her love of quilting, and my desire to grow up to be just like Grandma, has led me to an amazing and rewarding career as a professional quilter. And if that weren't enough fun, quilting has led me to teaching, which is, I believe, exactly where I’m supposed to be. I get to teach quilting stuff! Not rocket science, or dental hygiene, but quilting stuff! Could there even be a better job? (Not that I have anything against rocket scientists or dental hygienists, mind you. I'm sure you're very lovely people and I'm glad that you are willing to do your jobs so I don't have to. Especially dental hygienists.) Read more...

Victoria Simpson

| I love, love, love to make things. One of the first gifts that my husband gave me was a set of calligraphy pens and instructions that he purchased when he lived in Ireland for two years. That gift has been the wonderful foundation for my everything fiber/paper/ink obsession. On our 10th anniversary he gave me a spinning wheel and on our 15th anniversary a harp. He is a great gift giver and I am thankful for the bounty that I have been blessed with.
