In 1987 Quilters Newsletter Magazine hired Hari as an illustrator/designer. This job was her introduction to the quilting world. She quickly became interested in machine quilting because the definition of the stitches was more like the pen and ink drawings/illustrations that she has always enjoyed doing. She also found that machine quilting traditional patterns could be a painful stop and go process, so she started developing quilting designs that could be stitched in a continuous line to make them easier to machine quilt.

In 1990, Hari and partner (now husband) Gordon Snow founded Beautiful Publications, LLC, a small publishing business that publishes and distributes the continuous-line designs that she began designing in 1989. In 1992 she developed and began teaching a simple technique using water-soluble thread that results in a beautiful trapunto effect for machine quilters. Her books, Exploring Machine Trapunto and Trapunto by Machine, (both C&T Publishing) are based on this technique. She has been teaching quilting since the early 90’s. Her emphasis is on free-motion machine quilting arts, trapunto effects, and the use of a variety of threads to achieve creative goals with quilting. The joy Hari finds in teaching is not just to share with her students what she knows, but to help them understand what they already know, and to lead them to realize what wonderful potential they already possess. In the spring of 2006, Professional Quilter Magazine named Hari Teacher of the Year.

She is now in the midst of furnishing and organizing the beautiful studio that Gordon has just built for her, and looking forward to working on new ideas and becoming very productive. She is also very excited that The Quilting School.com invited her to join their “faculty”, and it is at their facilities that she has just completed the initial recordings for soon-to-be video streaming and DVD distribution.
